Registration requirements, balances due, paperwork, etc.
Course outline, schedule, logistics and locations of activities HANDOUTS*
9:00 am Instructor Trainer Presentations [teaching mode]
Removing boats from cars/trucks. Tie downs.
Carrying boats to water.
Kayak parts, nomenclature and boat fit.
PFD discussion on personal flotation and fit demo, along with spray skirts if appropriate.
Paddle nomenclature and how to hold, fit and mark .
Basics of paddling theory & concepts of paddling: Boat to blade, Newton’s Law etc.*
Getting in and out of the kayak from shore using paddle.
Dry wet exit demo and drills.
In water wet exits.
10:15 am Class on water for Instructor Trainer Stroke Presentations and candidate practice: "Rafting up"

Day 2
8:30am Candidates meet at site
9:00 – 10 am - IT Presents ACA CK Curriculums and procedures for course registration and reporting. *
Nautical Rules of the Road and discuss paddling in traffic. .*
11am Instructor Trainer Presentations and candidate drills: Rescues (on-water)
Safety and rescue drills (HELP, Huddle, etc.)
Braces, sculling , low and high
Assisted T-rescue
Solo paddle float re-entry with and without sling
Re-enter and pump
Eskimo rescue
Eskimo roll demo with extended paddle
Re-enter and roll with paddle float
Scoop rescue demo
Hand of God demo
12:30pm Break for lunch with IT lecture on risk management and liability issues.
Use of video in instruction.
12:45 Candidates demonstrate strokes with IT videoing
Sweeps to 360.

3:30pm Candidate Presentations: Individual topics with presentations graded and critiqued (10-15 minutes each)

On water communication & signaling/safety devices
Regional hazards and risk management strategies
Dressing for Paddling hot and cold
Cold water paddling & hypothermia
Tides, currents and their effects on paddlers
Wind, waves, land masses and their effects on paddlers
Rules of the nautical road and paddling in traffic
5:30pm Critique of the day
6-7 :30pm Dinner and review stroke video
Day 3
8:30am Instructor Trainer Presentations
Basic Kayak Navigation: Magnetic compass and nautical chart information, compass use and sea based practices applied to the class location.
9:15pm Open water paddle session for certification evaluation .
Pre launch talks ;
Beach dynamics and surf tactics talk by candidate
Trip planning and on water management strategies talk
10am. Trip leadership and candidates teaching strokes, along with on water management and simulated situations drills, with candidates switching lead and student positions.
IT observation of candidates strokes, boat handling, rescue ability, on water comfort,
Leadership and communication skills.
Video if possible.
Candidates and IT’s evaluate and discuss each exercise.
12:30. Lunch with candidate and IT presentations.
1pm. Continue with scenarios on return to launch
2:30 Arrive at launch site, stow boats and gear.
3pm Written Exam and grading begin individual candidate evaluation as to status
5:00pm.Final critique of day and overall workshop.
